Leslie G. Ungerleider (1946–2020)

As 2020 drew to a close, the scientific community lost one of its towering figures, Leslie G. Ungerleider. Even though Leslie had struggled with health issues during the past years, the news left many shocked and devastated. Leslie was not only deeply respected by our community, but she was, to many of us, a beloved mentor and dear friend. One of the world’s preeminent neuroscientists who shaped our understanding of the visual system, Leslie was chief of the Laboratory of Brain and Cognition at the National Institute of Mental Health and an NIH Distinguished Investigator.
